The Benefits of Dry Body Exfoliating
Dry body brushing is a gentle and effective body exfoliating technique that has been practised since ancient times because of its associated health benefits. Not only does it gently and effectively exfoliate the skin leaving it feeling softer and more glowing, but dry body brushing also stimulates the vascular, nervous and lymphatic systems to bring about a multitude of benefits.
Regular dry body brushing over the thighs and buttocks is heralded to improve the dimpled look of cellulite by discouraging fluid retention and toxic build-up. The dry body brushing stimulates the fat deposits, bringing rich oxygenated blood to the skin’s surface. The skin may look a little pink afterwards – this is increased stimulation and will resolve quickly. Body exfoliating with dry body brushes is a great way to prep the stomach, legs and bottom before applying firming body oils or an all-natural cellulite cream, optimising the benefits of these active formulations.
Body exfoliating with dry body brushes is ideal for those sensitive skin that are looking for an effective but gentler alternative to body scrubs. Ideal in preventing painful ingrown hairs, regular dry body brushing encourages cellular renewal keeping the pores clean and clear.
How to Practise Dry Body Brushing
Use your dry body brush before your bath or shower. Start at the feet brushing over each limb; feet to knees, moving along the thighs to the hips, over the bottom continuing to over your stomach, waist and chest, always bringing the sweeping rhythmic “flicks” in an upward direction towards the heart. Remember you control the pressure and can be soft or firm depending on the different areas of your body. Begin again at the hands sweeping upwards along the arms. Dry body brushing should feel comfortable yet invigorating, after all, you are stimulating the skin surface with the aim of exfoliating and increasing circulation.
There is no one rule when you should dry body brush. We love a zealous brushing before our AM shower due to the invigorating and stimulating effect on the body, but keep in mind any time of the day is better than not at all, and just as beneficial. Dry body brushing is a great precursor to a detoxifying salt bath or even after a pilates session or power walk to further boost the lymphatics. The key to seeing great results is consistency. Make it part of your daily routine, it only takes a few minutes and the ritual has a meditative effect, helping the brain to switch off from all that overthinking and daily stress.
With a whole range of natural body brushes to choose from selecting the right dry body brush is personal. If you are a beginner, have sensitive or dry skin we recommend a softer all-natural bristle body brush. For masculine skin or those experienced in dry body brushing or oily skin types, a medium or firmer bristle is best. Our range of dry body brushes are premium, non-chemically treated plant bristles designed to improve circulation, aid in the release of toxins and reduce the effects of dry skin conditions like Psoriasis, Eczema and other dry skin conditions. Caring for your dry body brushes is easy, a light mist after use with an antibacterial Tea Tree Hydrosol keeps it clean between uses and a wash weekly using tea tree soap and warm water then hung in the sun to dry thoroughly, will see your natural dry body brush last for a number of years.
