Founder Bio
Michele Riley has a background in natural products, having started out in natural baby and child products, she launched the Konjac as baby sponges. She quickly discovered the benefits for all age categories and worked to have other ingredients with skincare benefits added. She has never looked back. Michele is still the founder and the director of The Konjac Sponge Company. Her ethics have never changed, and she is supported by a strong team of creative, caring and ethically minded staff.
More recently, in 2019, Michele changed the company registered name from The Konjac Sponge Company Ltd to Niche and Cult Ltd. This was purely so that the company could better embrace the other brands that are now distributed by the company. Same company number, same people and same ethics, the only change was the name.
What is Konjac?
The Konjac potato or Konnyaku is a perennial plant native to Asia and can be found growing wild at very high altitudes. A totally natural food source, Konjac is 97% water, rich in mineral goodness and low in calories. The plant is naturally alkaline, which leaves skin perfectly balanced.
Used for over 1,500 years. Konnyaku has been used in Korea, Japan and China for over 1,500 years as medicine, food, a dieting aid and a beauty product. Due to the plant’s claimed health-giving properties, the Konjac Sponge was originally created for delicate baby skin.
