Here’s our top tips for the perfect shave:
- Take your time – you’re most likely to nick yourself if you’re in a rush. Consider shaving a mini ritual, take a steamy shower or bath, exfoliate thoroughly, massage shave oil into the skin, then methodically shave being sure not to miss anything.
- Steam & exfoliate – think of exfoliating as a mini massage, it unclogs pores and softens the hair in preparation for clean close shave (and it helps to minimises ingrown hairs and irritation).
- Apply a shave oil or soap – we love a shave oil as it moisturises simultaneously, but everyone’s different. You know what works best for you. Coat the entire skin area you plan to shave with shaving oil or soap remembering to rinse your hands to make sure you have a good grip on the razor handle.
- Don’t apply and pressure – Well Kept safety razors are made of solid brass and have beautiful weight to them. This means that all you have to do is gently glide the razor over the skin and let its weight apply the pressure for you. A good rule of thumb is to position the razor at a 30degree angle.
- Go with the grain – shaving against the grain is much harsher and can cause serious irritation.
- Keep the razor clean – every few passes, rinse out the razor head, running under the shower or tap. Every few rinses loosen the handle grip one turn, this allows thorough rising all around the blade and help keep it sharp.
- Keep the blade sharp – it’s personal and based on how course and dense your hair is, JUST keep it sharp to avoid irritation even if it means changing the blade once a week.
