Recognising a gap in the market is possibly the biggest understatement EVER, when referencing Rageism Beauty. Leesa and I came across the Rageism brand whilst we were judging the Beauty Shortlist Awards and we were equally impressed by both the Brand ethos and their products. I’m talking with Co-Founder Kathrine Baulderstone of Rageism Beauty.
Vanessa: The Rageism range really does address a huge gap in the market for those of us with looking for an all-natural product that is not only results driven but suitable for mature skin. Can you tell us a little more about how Rageism Beauty came about?
Kathrine: Paula, a family friend and I were sick of makeup not working on older skin. We feel older women are ignored by the beauty industry and there is very little on the market which is specifically made for older skin. Most makeup is simply other repurposed makeup and sold as products for mature skin not genuinely makeup for mature skin. We did an extensive amount of research and testing and we landed with our current range that is not only high-performance but packed with all-natural ingredients suited for over 40 skin.
Mineral makeup has been a staple in the beauty industry for years, known for its natural look and long-lasting coverage. Using mineral powder foundation can be daunting at first, but it doesn’t have to be. Vanessa: I’m in love with the Rageism Loose Powder Mineral Foundation! It is truly a genius makeup, it’s so light but covers exactly what I need it to. My skin loves this foundation and my redness appears to be “calmer” after I’ve been wearing this all day. What makes this makeup so unique?
Kathrine: The Loose Mineral Powder Foundation is a gorgeous, gorgeous product. Its a super lightweight and tripled milled formulation. It is pure Australian minerals and provides incredible coverage while not feeling as though you are wearing makeup at all. Because it’s a pure mineral formulation it works on all skin types from sensitive, or even skin that has undertaken cosmetic procedures and prone to redness, to oily and combination. You mention your redness appears calmer? That is because the minerals not only conceal the redness, but the anti-inflammatory nature of the minerals soothe the skin. Its also non-comedogenic which means that despite the coverage it won’t clog the pores and allows your skin to breathe. I’m sure you agree, it literally feels like you aren’t wearing makeup. Add in the bonus of natural sun protection, and how quick and easy it is to apply, what’s not to love?
Loose Powder Mineral Foundation
Vanessa: I love how versatile this mineral makeup is. I’d love to share a tip. Put a little mineral powder foundation into your palm, add one drop of lightweight face oil, I’m using the Luxe Botanics Hydrating Marula Serum and mix to create a skincare liquid foundation. It’s super easy and quick and I use it a little more opaque to create a liquid under eye concealer that stays in place all day. Super easy and you can control the coverage from sheer to full coverage by building the layers. I use a little dusting of the Rageism Flawless Finish Setting Powder under my eyes and along the T-zone to keep the shine at bay.
Marula Hydrating Serum
Transform dry, depleted skin with this replenishing, restorative, skin fortifying concentrate. Wild harvested and cold pressed Marula oil infuses a burst of essential fatty acids and antioxidants that mimic the lipid barrier and effortlessly absorb into skin, sealing in moisture. A noticeably supple appearance and youthful radiance is restored.

Vanessa: Kathrine you mentioned to me you wear the Mineral Foundation each day, what’s the best way of applying this makeup if you are using it in powder form and what colour are you wearing?
Kathrine: I wear the 03 and if it’s summer I move up to the 04. The best way to apply it is with the right brush. You need a brush with tightly packed bristles that really hold the product. The Rageism Deluxe Kabuki Brush was created especially for applying our mineral powder products. Always give your brush a little flick or tap before you start applying also, just to ensure that there is no excess that you accidentally transfer. Start in the centre of the face with a pushing or pressing motion. This ensures the foundation makes good contact with the skin and won’t slip around. Press it all over the face and then using a buffing motion blend all over, down the neck and up to the ears. Its really quick and easy virtually impossible to mess up! The great thing about the powder foundation is that you will never get the dreaded line because the powder is so lightweight and blendable.
Vanessa: I use the Rageism Deluxe Kabuki Brush for applying both the Loose Powder Mineral Foundation, the Flawless Finish Setting Powder and the Rageism Highlighting and Setting Powder. The buffing motion polishes the minerals which gives you that flawless and pore-free airbrushed finish. The brush fits in makeup purse I carry in my handbag too. I think its worth mentioning the genius colour adapting ability of mineral makeup. Being all-natural mineral makeup the colour will adjusts to your tone so makes colour matching less of a risk, so you can go up a shade in colour and it adapts and works without looking the wrong shade for you.
Kathrine: That’s a great point, we recommend being the slighter darker shade of your colour match as it creates a more youthful look on mature skin. When it comes to colour matching over 40, going too light can make your complexion look ashen which can leave you looking a little older.

I really want to talk about 2 products in particular. Firstly, the Rageism Mineral Eye Primer. WOW. This changed my life. Talk us through it.
Kathrine: Yes! I’m glad you like the eye primer. I agree, its one of those things you don’t think you need until you try it. It has a formulation of ricinius communis (caster) seed oil, cocoa butter and vitamin E so it really creamy which means it doesn’t dry and cake on the eyes. Often as we age we get a lot of discolouration around the eye area, and the eye primer calms and soothes any redness. The caster seed and cocoa butter have anti-inflammatory properties. The tint disguises and covers discolouration so if you are wearing eyeshadow you will get the true colour of the shade. It also gives the shadow something to grip so helps prevent fading and creasing. Even better, you can also use the eye primer as a concealer!
Mineral Eye Primer
Vanessa: I will tell you how I fell in love with this product… this is the Rageism Highlighter and Setting Powder. I was looking to improve the look of my décolleté….. so I started there. And before long I started using it on my make-free days over my sunscreen as a mineral veil to give me a dewy glow. So many benefits in one product. How did this product come about?
Kathrine: This is my favourite product in our whole range, I think. It’s a 100% pure mica powder and it is very finely milled so it really becomes a fine veil on the skin. We developed it for 2 reasons – one, because it sets your makeup and even though we do generally advise older skin to steer clear of too much powder it sets it flawlessly because it is so pure. The other reason is because it adds a subtle but beautiful luminosity to the skin. As we age, there is a tendency for our skin to become a little dull and the Highlighting Powder restores its luminosity. It’s also gorgeous on your decolletage as you mention and even on your arms if you are wearing for example a strapless outfit. Again, its super lightweight doesn’t feel like you are wearing makeup at all.
Highlighting and Setting Powder
Vanessa: I’m wearing the Rageism Lip Plumper Gloss in Nude Pearl. I love the fact this gloss is not sticky, love the castor oil base. On my eyes I’m wearing the Rageism Everyday Eye Palette. I notice the palette is really natural and neutral, well suited for all skin tones. What inspired the colours in these selections?
Kathrine: It super annoying when you buy and eye palette and end up only using one or two of the shades isn’t it? We chose a neutral palette so you can add other shadows that you might already have if you choose to, but you have enough shades in the one palette to create lots of different looks as well. We have 2 shimmer shades – the champagne and the gold rush which can be dressed up, the neutrals of cream and malt and the gorgeous dusty pink and matte brown for defining and colouring the eye. The shades are all carefully selected to all complement one another, and are very highly pigmented minerals so true to colour and long lasting.
Vanessa: all-natural mineral eye-shadows are perfect for sensitive eyes and there is no trade off in terms of intensity of colour or long-wear, which can be a real misconception when it comes to natural makeup.
